Notes - “A native of Sicily, [Charles] came to Mercedes in 1918. He was one of the first in the Valley to enter the citrus fruit gift shipping business, about 1921, and for many years was a leader in the field… His other business interests have included a lumber yard and real estate holdings. In recent years, he had invented and patented a belt buckle for heart patients with a container for their medicine.
“An avid sportsman, for a number of years he served as guide for hunters in the Valley and Northern Mexico, bringing outstanding industrialists to the area. He would entertain the noted visitors at hs home.
“He was a member of the First Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge and at one time was active in both the Mercedes and Valley Chambers of Commerce. He had headed most local civic drives in years past.” [6]
