Leo Meerscheidt attended Rice University after graduating from Jefferson High School in San Antonio in 1935. However, his studies at Rice were interrupted by World War II. He served in both World War II and Korea as a Navy pilot. He was qualified to fly prop, helicopter and jet aircraft. He was an instructor pilot and flew transport for the Blue Angels. After the wars he flew as a commercial pilot for 18 years. He received a commendation from President Johnson for service to his country during the Vietnam War. He was also recognized as a Pioneer in Commercial Airline Service. He was a longtime active member of San Pedro Church of Christ. He was also a member of the Silver Eagles and Hermann Sons Harmonia Lodge No. 1. He was a 32nd Degree Mason.
