    “Russell attended Crockett Elementary, Washington Irving Middle School and Brackenridge High School in San Antonio, Texas. After graduating from high school in 1939, he started working at Kelly Air Force Base as an aircraft machinist apprentice, and later as a tool and die maker, then tool and die maker general foreman. Russell also attended night school taking math and technical college courses. He went into the Army Air Corps and served from 1943 to 1946 in England, France and Germany during World War II. He returned to work at Kelly Air Force Base afterwards. Russell was called to active duty and served during the Korean War. He retired from Kelly Air Force Base in 1976. His hobby was reloading rifle and pistol shells. During the war, he sent home two Italian and one German rifle for which ammunition was not available. His specialty was forming cartridge cases that were not normally available. He enjoys fishing and hunting at the deer lease near Rio Medina. He is a member of the the National Association Retired Federal Employees where he also served as president. He is active in a genealogy club and has served as president twice. He is a member of the Free Methodist Church. Since retirement, he and Anita have enjoyed traveling to Europe, throughout the United States, and Hawaii.”

    Notes:

    Forrest Campbell was born in Webb County, Texas. When he was a young man the family moved to Plainview, Texas, where they lived in a sod-house, being one of the first four families to settle there. The family later lived in Colorado City and in Webb County, moving to Houston to further the children’s education.

    Forrest worked his way through high school by selling newspapers and then got his degree in law a the University of Texas. He was interested in football and played on the high school and University teams.

    After receiving his degree in 1907, he came to San Antonio, Texas, where he was married to Anna Bozena Meerscheidt. After fifty-three years of law practice, Forrest retired. He passed away on September 26, 1965.

    Anna Meerscheidt was born and attended public schools in San Antonio. She was the valedictorian of her graduating class of 1907. This same year she accompanied her uncle Axel and family to Europe and spent seven months in a finishing school near Frankfurt-on-the-Main. While in Europe they traveled in Germany, Switzerland and Northern Italy, down the Rhine to Amsterdam. Her parents joined her in these travels during the second summer of her stay.

    Anna was married to Forrest Campbell and to them four sons and one daughter were born. Anna is very interested in her home life and the family tie is very close. All the family meet at her home on Sunday for family dinner.

    Anna is a member of the Free Methodist Church and has spent many years in church work. She taught Sunday School for over fifty years and spent six years in Child Evangelism working with the Mexican children.
