Mark Mayo was born in what was then Conecuh County, Alabama about eight miles from Brewton, Alabama. When he was twelve years old his family moved to Milton, Florida. They stayed there about two years before moving out into the country about fourteen miles from town. From there they moved to what is called Morse Creek. After marrying, he moved to Escambia County, Florida about three miles above Bluff Springs where Century, Florida is now located. He sold his land to Alger-Sullivan Lumber Company (A. S. L. Co.) and moved a quarter-mile north. He raised seven children and bought the Abercrombie tract, settling there until 1900. At that time he sold the tract to A. S. L. Co. and moved out another quarter-mile, built another place, and died there.
