    Notes:

Martha was born at the family home in La Grange and attended the Casino School while growing up. She loved and studied music. In 1892 she and her mother moved to San Antonio. Martha planned on teaching piano. However, her brother Max’s wife soon died, and he and his six-week-old twin sons moved in with them. Martha and her mother raised the boys, Martha taking most of the responsibility as her mother was in failing health. She continued to study music under the tutelage of Prof. Schemmel. She also was able to teach piano.

She moved back to La Grange in 1902 to live her sister, Lieschen Scholz. Again she taught piano. In 1907 she became the organist at the Lutheran Church, and she became active in other church work.
In 1911 her mother died and the twins were grown. So she moved back to San Antonio to teach and study music, also teaching a large Sunday school class. She got her greatest pleasure from her hobby of establishing and preserving the von Rosenberg family history.

As a result of her strenuous life in San Antonio, her health soon began to fail. So she moved into the Lutheran Home in Round Rock. Even though her health had become a real problem by 1940, she was able to bring joy to her companions at the home through her musical talent and Bible teaching. She developed inflammatory cancer and died in a San Antonio convalescent home.

    Notes:

Arthur Remer Meerscheidt was born on January 22, 1882 in La Grange, Texas. Arthur’s whole life was determined and altered by an injury at birth, due to pressure of a blood clot on the brain producing seizures which though not epileptic were similar in effect. A paralysis of his left side occurred at birth.

He never went to public school but had private tutors, until his father took him to live with a physician in Germany along with other members of the family. He had wonderful care and in the summers the physician took him to watering spas where several operations were performed on his left foot and left hand, but he remained paralyzed, and walked with a cane. Of course he never worked, but studied continuously writing in a little note book. He was very bright. Arthur made one trip back to Europe with the whole family in 1906 through the summer of 1907.

On return the family moved to Washington and then over to Mercer Island. Here he went on long walks with the family dog and it was in 1914 that he went on such a walk, suffered a seizure, fell and hit his head on a large rock. He died almost instantly from the injury. Thus he was found February 22, 1914. Arthur had been a sweet and loving son and brother.
