    Military He entered the Confederate Army in 1861 as a member of Colonel Joe Patterson's regiment. He spent some time in the Quartermaster's department in Grenada, Mississippi. He served mostly in General Roddy's command in the Tennessee Valley. Dabney Burleson was a private in Roddy's cavalry, under Nathan Bedford Forrest. He was at the Selma arsenal when the war ended, escaping capture.

      Dabney Burleson was a merchant in Danville, Alabama in the years before the Civil War. In the years after the war, he was a successful farmer. He was also an Odd Fellow. [4]
