Notes - “Dr. Anthony was born in Albuquerque, NM, before moving to Bryan, Texas and Houston. He lived in New Orleans for the past 39 years.
“He attended Tulane University and graduated from Texas A&M University, where he was elected to Phi Kappa Phi Honorary Society, and from the Baylor College of Medicine. He served his residency in ophthalmology at Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital in New Orleans from July 1965 to June 1967. While a resident, he also was a teaching fellow at Tulane.
“He was a clinical associate professor of ophthalmology at Tulane from 1967 to 1993. Dr. Antony also was a private-practice ophthalmologist before moving to New Orleans Eye Surgery Center in recent years.
“He served at Touro Infirmary as active senior staff from 1967 to 1993 and was chairman of the department of ophthalmology from 1978 to 1988. He was a senior visiting surgeon at Charity Hospital from 1967 to 1993 and served as courtesy staff at Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital, St. Charles General Hospital, Sara Mayo Hospital and Baptist Hospital.
“Dr. Antony was a member of the Orleans Parish Medical Society, the Louisiana State Medical Society, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the American and Southern medical associations. He was an elected fellow to the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 1969 and the American College of Surgeons in 1978.
“Dr. Antony was a member of the New Orleans Academy of Ophthalmology, where he served as Program Committee Chairman, 1973-79; Executive Committee member, 1974-84; president, 1981-83; Continuing Education Committee, chairman, 1985-90; and Membership Committee chairman, 1988-94. He was president of the Louisiana Ophthalmology Association from 1976 until 1980.
“He was a veteran of the Air Force Reserve, serving as a first lieutenant, and was a volunteer in the NO/AIDS Task Force.” [1]
